190. Put on Your Race Face

I have officially signed up for my first race of the fall season aka my favorite running season EVER

Friday I started making a list of the races I would like to run this fall.  Of course the list contained double the number of races I’ll actually be able to run so I’m in the process of whittling it down to the races I’m most interested in.  The races listed in bold are my current picks.

9/25/10 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5K/ 10K $40
9/26/10 PAWS Run for Their Lives 8K $35
10/16/10 Pumpkins in the Park 5K $30
10/31/10 Trick or Treat Trot 5K/ 10K $30
11/6/10 Hot Chocolate 15K/ 5K $55/ $45
11/13/10 Girls on the Run Fall 5K $35
11/25/10 Chicago Turkey Trot 8K $30
12/12/10 Rudolph Ramble 8K $30

The Pumpkins in the Park 5K last year was my first race ever so I definitely want to run that again – plus I think some of my friends who have recently started running are going to be doing this race as well.  I’ve heard great things about the Hot Chocolate race (slammin’ race swag), and I would love to do a 15K.  I wouldn’t typically race two weekends in a row, but the GOTR 5K is 10 minutes form my house and too amazing of an event to skip.  Any other Chicago-area bloggers/ runners looking to do any of these races?  I’m always looking for people to run with!

Last night at the BBQ my friend Judy mentioned she was considering doing the PAWS run.  I was already really torn between the Race for the Cure and the PAWS run, but finding a racing buddy sealed the deal!  We’re going to do the PAWS Run for Their Lives.

This particular race is also a fundraiser for the PAWS Chicago animal shelter.  PAWS (Pets Are Worth Saving) is a cageless, no-kill animal shelter which is pretty amazing.  If you have any interest in donating visit my fundraising page or email me for more information.

As a side note, I feel like races in the Chicago area are really expensive.  How much do you think is “too much” for a race?  Am I just super cheap or are those some pricey races?

  1. I think the Pumpkin in the Park 5k and the Hot Chocolate 15k would be awesome. I’m running a 10k race on October 23rd in Mackinac Michigan. I should be able to do a 15k 😉 a few weeks later right? I think the Turkey trot would be fun to depending on the weather.

Maybe we can get a bunch of folks around the area to do a group blogger run?

I’d say $20-$40 depending on swag etc is reasonable. From there I guess it’d be based on reviews of how the event is run if it’s worth the $

  2. Hey Stina, I’m Krista’s friend and I think you should drag her out to the Hot Chocolate 15k/5k. It would be my first year running it but I hear AWESOME things about the amount of chocolate at the end. I mean if chocolate at the finish line can’t get you to a PR what can? : )

    1. I’ve never done the Hot Chocolate race either. I don’t remember why I didn’t do it last year, but there was a reason. I really wanted to. Plus you get a sweet hoodie as race swag!

I think we definitely need to get Krista there!

  3. Sadly, that sort of race pricing is pretty standard just about everywhere. It’s really, really hard to find a 5K for less than $30 these days 🙁

I’ve run the Trick or Treat Trot and the Rudolph Ramble – both are way fun. That said, I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Hot Chocolate run – I just never got around to running it before I moved.
