191. Strong in September

I have a single, but ambitious goal for the month of September: get into the habit of doing strength training. 

I have never been good about doing strength training.  It’s not something I particularly love or hate.  Something about strength training just makes me feel helpless, clueless, and totally silly.  I avoid it because I feel like I don’t know what the hell I’m doing, but I don’t know what the hell I’m doing because I avoid it.  It’s a vicious cycle.

My goal: start small.  I want to establish a habit, a routine I can build on in the future.

So here’s the plan:

Step 1: Organize the strength training routines I’ve spent the last week and a half  collecting from magazines, the internet, etc.  I’m going to put these in a binder with sections for upper body, lower body, core, and full body.

Step 2: 10 – 20 minutes of strength training according to the following schedule:

  • Wednesday – Lower Body
  • Friday – Upper Body
  • Sunday – Core

This plan also includes getting back to Monday night yoga at the gym.

Step 3: Lather, rinse, repeat, and with any luck show improvement.

  1. I love going to body pump at the gym because I get cardio and the music makes me want to push harder! Even if you don’t think you’ll like it you should try it! Good luck
