This was originally posted to HealthyLivingBlogs, but I wanted to share it here as well – especially now that summer officially started last week!
Remember when we were kids and we had three glorious months off school to do pretty much whatever we wanted. Then when we got back to school, our teachers would ruin it all by making us write some lame “How I Spent My Summer Vacation” essay or stand up and give a little speech sharing our grand summer adventures…or lack thereof. Sometimes I really miss that summer vacation and wonder what the heck I was thinking when I decided not to look for a teaching job after graduation, but that’s neither here nor there really…
So while I may not actually get a true summer vacation anymore, I do want to make the most of the long days and warm weather of the coming months. Over the last couple weeks, I’ve been compiling a 28 while 28 goals list. My birthday is June 5th, and there was many years as a kid where my birthday was the last day of school, officially marking the start of summer. (Yes, that’s pretty much THE best birthday gift ever!) Some of the items are on my 28 while 28 list, but they make a great summer bucket list. Consider this your reverse “How I Spent My Summer Vacation” essay.
How I Plan to Spend my Summer Vacation.
This summer I intend to…
…Hike 3 area trails
…Bike 3 different area trails
…See the Mythbusters Exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry
…Visit a local brewery
…Go to The Ledge at the Sear’s Tower (Would you believe I’ve lived just outside of Chicago my entire life, and I’ve never been to the top of the Sear’s Tower? I’d never even set foot in the building until I started working across the street from it! Also, I will never call it Willis Tower…never.)
…Go to the beach
…Start consistently strength training using the New Rules of Lifting for Women.
Complete my first Warrior Dash mud run
…Run my 5th half marathon
…Go to a baseball game (for the minor league team down the street from my boyfriend’s house.)
I’m sure there’s a few items on the list that I won’t get a chance to tackle, but I look forward to lots of fun adventures with family and friends. So tell me, what do you plan to do with your summer vacation?
