300. Weight Watchers Wednesday: Week #10

Reflections

I was actually very nervous about weigh in this week.  I had a feeling it wasn’t going to be a very good one.  I’d been feeling very discouraged after last week.  I felt like this week had been better, but still not great.  I used 46 out of my 49 weekly points – most of them during the course of the weekend when I was at Lake Geneva with the boy and three of his friends.  Despite it being a pretty indulgent weekend, I actually managed to do quite a bit of “damage control” pretty naturally.  I knew I wasn’t going to want to eat every meal out for two days so we stopped on the way for groceries.  We were staying in a condo with a full kitchen so there was no reason I couldn’t cook some food.  I grabbed stuff to make eggs, sausage and hash brown Saturday morning and stuff to make lunches.  We ended up getting ice cream on Saturday afternoon and eating dinner out Saturday night.  Sunday morning we went out to breakfast.  There was also lots of walking and some swimming so I did get some activity in.  My biggest problem was grazing.  I felt like I ate a lot over the course of the weekend.

After I reviewed the weekend with Laura, I realized it really wasn’t as bad as I’d built it up to be in my head, but I still wasn’t feeling confident about weigh in.  Needless to say, I was pretty surprised, and very excited, when 156.4 popped up on the scale.  Generally I’m not one to let the scale dictate my feelings, but this week that was definitely the case.  I’m definitely feeling renewed this week, and I’m quite confident I can drop the last 1.6lbs to hit the 10lb mark (and my lowest weight since I started in 2009) next week!  I think having a good weigh when I “knew” it was going to be awful is a major factor in that, but I don’t think that’s the only factor.  I also made three major decisions this week that have me seriously excited to be moving forward.

1. I decided to rejoin Weight Watchers for the next session.  The meetings I attend are actually part of a Weight Watchers at Work program through my mom’s church.  The Weight Watchers at Work program is a little different from regular Weight Watchers meetings because you pay for a 17 week session up front.  You also get a voucher for 19 free weeks using their eTools.  It’s cheaper over all the a monthly pass or paying week-by-week for meetings.  However, it’s payment up front so you have to be committed to going weekly to make it worth your money.

2. Last night I joined a gym (again)!  It’s actually a new location that won’t be open until mid to late November, but that’s about the time my winter slump will kick in.  So, while waiting kind of sucks, it gives me something to look forward to when the winter months roll around.  It’s actually a new location for my old gym.  It’s one of their “express” locations so it lacks a few of the amenities of their full gyms (namely the pool, climbing wall, and basketball courts), but it’s only $20 a month with no contract.  I am limited to that location.  However, since my mom is a member of their “regular” gym, she can come to my location if we want to do classes together. 

2.5. I also bought 4 training sessions (I bought 3 actually, but the initial assessment session is free.)Along with the training sessions, I get access to their electronic personal training.  Based on the information your trainer puts into the computer, it generates work-outs you can print on days you’re not working with the training.  My plan is to use the training sessions as once a month “check-ins” for myself and really maximize my ability to work-out (read: strength training with weight machines and free weights) on my own using their electronic system.

3. I’ve decided that when I reach my goal weight, I’m going to take a couple hundred dollars from my savings account to buy new clothes.  Laura wrote a really great post about fashion, clothing and weight loss, and it really inspired me to start taking dressing myself more seriously.  As my novel length comment on her post said, I don’t remember the last time I legitimately bought myself new clothes. I’ll grab stuff here and there – usually, like, off the clearance rack – but I think that last time I purchased actual outfits and and pieces that go together intentionally, was probably in fall 2009 after I lost my initial 30 – 40 lbs.  There’s a lot more details in that comment (so go read her post and all the awesome comments there), but I think buying a new wardrobe is a great reward for all my hard work – especially since a lot of my clothes are already too big on me!

    I have to say all of these things are steps in the right direction! I’m super excited about you having a gym membership with the access to the trainer and the online trainer. I think you’ll be able to find a great strength training workout that works for you this way!

    Also glad you committed to the weight watchers again as that seems to really be working for you!

    And obviously I support the fashion! I think you should talk with Rachel or another fashion guru to learn the types and styles of clothing that look good on your body so you know what to shop for when you go to the store! This definitely has helped me because now I go into the store looking for specific types of clothing.

    Can’t wait to hear how this unfolds and what your weigh in next week is! I know you can beat this slump and get to 155!
