Product Review: KLUTCHClub

And now, the long anticipated KLUTCHClub box review!

Klutchclub review

Many moons ago (back in September), I was offered the opportunity for a free KlLUTCHClub box to review. I finally got around accepting the offer in January and ordered the January box on January 30th.  (I’m not even kidding.)  KLUTCHClub is one of about a million subscription box services out there right now.  For $10 a month (or less if you subscribe for more than a month at a time) + $8 shipping, they send you box of health and fitness swag each month.

Before I even get into the boxes, my biggest…we’ll say annoyance with these boxes is shipping.  Really this isn’t entirely KLUTCHClub’s fault except that they use FedEx.  KLUTCHClub is headquartered in good ole Chi-town.  Per Google maps, their office is 25 miles from my house.  So why in the world does it take 8 days for my box to get to me?!  FedEx actually routes the box through WI.  Aside from completely defying logic, it also really annoys me because at $8 a box, the shipping for these boxes ain’t cheap.

But let’s talk about what’s really important here: the boxes.  Each box has a sort of theme for the products inside.  January’s box was products for helping you stick to your New Year’s Resolutions to lose weight and get fit.  Here’s what arrived in the January box:

January Klutchclub box One thing I really liked about the KLUTCHClub boxes is each of them comes with a booklet explaining each item and why they chose to include it in the box.

  • Turbofire’s Greatest Hits Cardio DVD – To be perfectly honest, I haven’t done this yet.  I’ve been saying I’m going to give it a try, but it’s yet to actually happen.
  • ProCompression $20 Gift Card – The card said it was good until June 1, 2013, but when I entered it on the  ProCompression website, it told me the code had been disabled.  I wasn’t terribly upset as I was pretty much only buying the socks because I had the coupon but still.
  • Hypnosis Network’s Best Recorded Sessions – uh, whaaaa
  • FRS Healthy Slim Chews – The description says “As part of a balanced diet and exercise plan, Health Slim helps you achieve your healthy weight goals.  You’ll burn more calories with quercetin, the powerful antioxidant that has been shown to provide sustained natural energy and endurance.   I’m pretty sure these are the diet pills of the healthy living world.  They are totally not “my thing” but I gave them a try.  The flavor was pretty good – mine were tropical – and the texture was akin to a slightly stale Starburst, but honestly, I doubt I’ll consume any more of them.
  • Scheckter’s Organic Energy Drink – I didn’t drink this because energy drinks and I don’t typically get along.  They screw with my sleep cycle, and I just haven’t been willing to risk that for the sake of a review.  Sorry guys.  If someone wants to try this let me know.  I’ll mail it to you.
  • Madecasse Chocolate – Easily my favorite item in the box.  This chocolate was delicious, but then again, chocolate is like sex and pizza, even when it’s bad it’s still pretty good.
  • EAS Lean 15 Bar – I only ate about a quarter of this bar.  At first bite it was really good, but the after taste was terrible.  Texture wise it was as good as similar bars.
  • Bach Rescue Remedy Gum – Probably my second favorite item.  I really liked the flavor of this gum, but I’m not sure that it really lives up to the claims of “help[ing] you relax, get focused and find your sense of calm” at least not any more than just the act of chewing gum is a stress releiver for me.
  • Ginger People Ginger Chews – I know some people that swear by these things.  I don’t like them.  Ginger chews just aren’t for me.
  • Snikiddy Eat Your Vegetables Chip – I has high hopes for these chips, but I was disappointed.  They were kind of like homemade tortilla chips, but the taste and texture were just slightly off.  I ended up tossing them after about 4 chips.
  • LeBootcamp Weight Loss Program – This was another coupon and nothing something I was terribly interested in.

Overall, I was rather underwhelmed by my spoils in the January box.  It’s not the these items were terrible, they just weren’t anything that really excited me.  I also didn’t love all the flyers and coupons.  I want things not coupons that don’t work when I get around to using them.

Despite my disappointment with the January box, I love the idea of the KLUTCHClub boxes (and subscription boxes in general if we’re being honest) so I decided to give them a second chance and keep my subscription going for the March box.

[EDITED: After looking at the KLUTCHClub site, I realized I did actually get the February box, I was just confused because I received it in mid-March.]

Here’s what I got on try #2

March Klutchclub box

I haven’t actually gotten around to trying a lot of these items yet.  If there’s something I love when I do try it, I’ll be sure to let you know.  The March box was products to help ward off sickness and boost the immune system.

  • Nature’s Bakery Whole Wheat Fig Bar – Oh my god guys!  OhMyGod!  These were so.good.  It’s basically a more wholesome version of the Fig Newton, but my new mission is to find these in stores.
  • Honest Tea Honey Green Tea – Nik actually drank this because despite my love of hot tea, I don’t really care for iced tea.  I did have a sip and it wasn’t bad.  He said it wasn’t sweet enough for his tastes, but that didn’t come as much of a surprise.
  • Priobiotic Cleansing Diet $25 Gift Card – A coupon I’ll likely never use.
  • Khataland.com $15 Gift Card – I’ve gotta say, I love the idea of a folding yoga mat, but at $40+ a pop and without the need for a new mat, I probably won’t be using this gift card before it expires.  I did consider buying a couple towels, but shipping was more than the cost of a towel!
  • Allergease All-Natural Herbal Supplement – I’m actually pretty excited to try these once allergies start kicking in.  I’ve been looking for some more natural allergy relief options so if these work, I’ll definitely be using the 15% off coupon they included to order some more!
  • Immuno Gum – This seems to be Cold-Eez in gum form.  I haven’t needed these yet though.  I’ve actually managed to avoid that feeling of oncoming sickness so far this year.  Of course now that I’ve said this, I’ll probably be sick tomorrow.
  • Clean Well Disinfectant Wipes
  • Drink Chia Omega 3 Superfood Drink – I’m not going to lie.  I haven’t tried this because it scares me.  The whole drinking chia thing.  I just don’t know.  One of these days I’ll (wo)man up.
  • Vita Perk Vitamin Supplements – It’s basically a multivitamin you pour in your coffee instead of sweetener.  I really love the idea of this product because multi-vitamins tend to make me really nauseous.  Unfortunately, I didn’t really love the product itself.  (I tried the vanilla)  The Vita Perk defniitely sweetened the coffee.  It was an artificially sweet thuogh, and I just didn’t like it.  (This applies to most artificially sweetened products.  I just don’t like the taste of artificial sweeteners be it Stevia, Splenda, whatever…)  If you don’t mind the artificial sweetener taste, you would probably like this.

All in all, while I love the idea of the KLUTCHClub box, I’m just not sold.  The majority of the products I’ve received just don’t excite me.  I decided not to continue my subscription since, for $18 a month, I’d rather get a box where I love the majority of the products I receive each month, but I’d definitely be willing to give them another chance in the future.  One of the cool things about KLUTCHClub is you can preview the products in the box on the website so you can have an idea of what you’re getting before you sign up.

Disclaimer: I was given code for a free box, and I paid for the second box with my hard earned dollas.  I paid shipping on both boxes.  As always, all opinions are my own.
Disclaimer #2: This post does contain affiliate links.  If you sign up for a KlutchClub box of your own I get “klutchbcuks” but I think you do too.
